Michal Valčo Honored with Rare Award

Presented by Rector of University of Žilina

A new stage of life has just commenced for 2446 freshman students in the bachelor degree program, 1264 students in the master’s degree program, and 109 new PhD students at the University of Žilina. The joy of new possibilities and opportunities accompanied other good news. The university defended its position as a university and is ranked among the top research universities in Slovakia and abroad.

To achieve this position, the University faced the scrutiny of its education and research activity, formulated by the Accreditation Commission (form of institutional accreditation that involves a comprehensive review of all institutional functions. It is granted at the completion of a peer review process, and assures the educational community, the general public, and other organizations that an accredited institution has met high standards of quality and effectiveness; note).

“Challenges for constant growth and improvement are not just for new students, but for all of us – teachers, scholars, researchers and other staff of the University of Žilina. Two and a half thousand new students have committed themselves to our care,” said the rector of the University of Zilina, Professor Tatiana Čorejová, PhD.

A highlight of the opening ceremony of the 63rd academic year at the University of Žilina was a solemn award ceremony. Thank-you letters were read by Rector Čorejová. Awards for achievements received during the past year were given to successful athletes, PhD students, teachers, and scholars.

We are pleased that one of the special awards was given to our own Professor Michal Valčo, PhD. Michal’s award, handed to him by Professor Čorejová, was for “active work and significant contribution to the development of international cooperation at the University of Žilina.”

Congratulations, Michal!
