Wisdom Hides in Books

“Education is not the privilege only of elementary, high school, and college students,” said Teacher Zuzka in Martin’s Lutheran Preschool.

Not only are preschool children of the Lutheran Elementary School discovering many interesting books in their library, but they are also enjoying entertaining literacy programs presented by the library’s staff. Recently, for example, library assistants read the children one of their most favorite cartoons called “Three Picks”. The assistants then gave the children opportunity to interact with the story by answering questions about the cartoon itself. Next, they invited the children to act out various parts of the cartoon. Finally the children learned to sing the well-known theme song from “Three Picks”. Throughout the entire experience children’s laughter filled the library. So the goal was achieved: Children had fun discovering that learning can be fun—even in libraries!

“Books are wells of wisdom”, says an old Slovak proverb. We are excited to see such young children begin to develop positive attitudes toward books. The sooner – the better. :)
