The 10th anniversary of Lutheran Elementary School in Martin – we celebrate with gratitude on our lips

We celebrated a gorgeous 10th Anniversary of the Lutheran Elementary School on Friday, 21st of June, 2013. Every student, teacher, and parent met in the auditorium for a ceremony to celebrate the beginning, forming, and ten-year-long growing of the school.

Friday’s program in auditorium had more than 500 guests! 320 students and teachers were on the podium and lead the program. “It is great mission activity for Slovak families,” said Jozef Sopoliga, director of Lutheran Elementary School in Martin. “Parents can see and hear evangelism through their own children.”

The highlight of the ceremony was a musical “Nicodemus” which explained Nicodemus question: “How can someone be born when they are old?” (Jn 3, 4). Jesus answers „no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit“ (Jn 3, 5) to Nicodemus’ question and he decides to change his life. “The story about Nicodemus was a great message for many parents and others outside society who saw the program during the ceremony because these people could – through this story – better understood Christian and social programs in our School”, said J. Sopoliga. The audience liked program very much! Three standing ovations of a full auditorium is credible evidence.

Bohdan Hroboň, director of Bible School, reminded listeners of the difficult situation at the beginning of school: “The school didn’t have classes, teachers, financial support or also students that we could see at the first year.” It was hard to start a Christian offer of education in a post long-term communist city like was Martin at that time. Therefore Bohdan Hroboň also spoke about “a deep conviction that teaches children about Jesus Christ and His social thinking is a great investment (contribution) for our church, community and society. If we would not use this freedom for Christian education, which was given by God, it would be a big sin.”

During the Sunday worship service many parents and student family members came to the church again. It was almost miraculous to see so many new people listen to God´s words, prayed and sang to our Lord.
